BRIDES A MONTH.

AMERICAN SOLDIERS DUPED. An order from American Army Headquarters compelling French brides of American soldiers to show certificates of good character before being granted passage to America, has stirred up a hornet's nest in the district of Pari3 and Service of Supply. The reason made for this order, which was not made public, is that a large number of French girls have heard that America is a land of honey, and they are so anxious to go there, that thej are willing to marry American sotdiers for the convenience of passage across, and say good-bye as soon as the boat pulls in. The number of the unsophisticated Americans who told this story to the American authorities was so considerable, that the War Department suggested that the American Expeditionary Forces should hav* some assurance of the character of the girls. For the legitimate love-sick couples, every convenience is provided for making the voyige. The order issued by General Harts, of the district of Paris, directs that brides should have letters from commanding officers of their husbands' organisation or some other officer, certifying the good character of the girl. The order does not apply to officers' brides'-
