IMPRISONMENT FOR SLY GROGSELLING. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrates' Court, on charges of sly grog-selling, Leonard Russell was sentenced to two months' imprisonment and Harry Spooner to one month. A charge against Mrs. Annie Toomer was dismissed. DAMAGE TO ROADS. Invercargill, Last Night. The Southland County Council decided to forward an estimate of the cost of the damage done to the roads by the extra traffic due to the railway cut, and request payment of the amount. PAYMENTS FOR INDIAN GOODS. Invercargill, Last Night. At the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Gilkison stated that the Union Company during the wr.r had made freights payable in India, a practice that worked well for New Zealand importers, but now, owing to the high value of the rupee, the practice caused a loss with the rupee at Is 107-18 d. The loss to New Zealand merchants on a shipment of goods on the Waitomo was about £13,750. It was decided to ask the Union Company to revert to the practice of paying freights in the Dominion.
