The friends of Mr. John Downs, of Devon Street, will regret to learn that his health is causing conswevabje anxiety at the present time. Signor Capelli, the tenor, who has been teaching singing in Sydney, has been making appearances lately with the Williamson Grand Opera Company <in Syd- J ney. Mr C. Warden, who was formerly headmaster of th° Campbell Street] School, Palmerston North, and who was to have been re-instated as first assist-.I ant there, has been transferred to the l Aramoho School, and will take up Mb position as headmaster in the place of the late Mr. J. K. Law. Mr Robert Dick, formerly a well-1 known resident of Otahuhu, died at! Mount Eden on Thursday at the age of 74. Mr Dick was a colonist of many years' standing, and was for many years a leading member of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, ana he was a past resident of that body. On retiring from the Westfield works a few years ago he entered into business at Cambridge, but owing to ill-health he left there some time ago. Mr John William Mackay, a well- '. known resident of Wellington; died on Monday, at the age of 64 years. Mr Mackay was born in Scotland, and during the many years he lived in Wellington he took a keen interest in the doings of the Caledonian Society. At one time he was largely interested in marble quarries, but of more recent years he had been carrying on the business of an estate agent. He leaves a widow, who was formerly on the staff of the New Zealand Times and of the New Zealand Herald, and two children, Miss Mona Mackay, at present on the staff of the Press, Christchurch, and Mr lan Mackay, formerly connected with various newspapers and more recently attached to the Defence Department.
