The mounted police, after being bombarded with brick-bats/charged, and after freely using their batons, dispersed the mob. Fourteen rioters and one policeman were injured. One arrest was made. The Premier recovered sufficiently to attend a special meeting of the Federal Cabinet, at which the position was discussed. At the City Court a number of Saturday's rioters were fined. FURTHER RIOTS. Received July 23, 12.55 a.m. Melbourne, July 22. Further riots took place after the funeral of the soldier killed on Saturday. Mounted troopers dispersed the mobs with batons.
