The miners at North Nottingham have struck owing to the increased price of coal Two hundred thousand are idle. The Yorkshire and Sheffield factories are closing. The north-eastern strike has been settled. MINERS' STRIKE EXTENDING. Received July 23, 12.5 a.m. London, July 21. The miners' resistance to the coal price increase is extending. Forty-five thousand struck in Derbyshire, and sis thousand in Lancashire and Staffordshire. FURTHER STRIKES. Received July 23, 12.55 a.m. London, July 21. Three thousand Hull dockers have struck owing to non-payment for peace day. Liverpool dockers threaten Rn immediate strike. Hundreds of Bristol and Avonmouth dockers have struck—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. MARITIME STRIKfc UNIONS IN CONFERENCE. , Melbourne, July 22. Walsh, secretary of th* Seamen's Union, has been arrested for an offence under the Arbitration Act. A conference of the unions concerned in the maritime strike has opened. PUKEMIRO COAL STRIKE. Wellington, Yesterday. Legal opinion regarding tlw Pukemiro coal strike has been, obtained by tho Miners' Federation Summarised, the opinion is that the, miners did not strike and that the company was not guilty of a lock-out; that the miners' inspectors have the right to visit abandoned working and that a prosecution of the company does not lie, hut in am- event the proceedings can only be taken on the initiative of the inspectors. STRIKE IN CHRISTIANA. Received Julv 22, 9.45 p.m. Christiania, July 21. A general strike has begun. The railways and trams have stopped, and the hospitals are without gas or electricity, —Aus.-N.Z.
