MR. H. TRIMBLE AND SCHOOL SITES. To the Editor. Sir, —Mr. Trimble was reported to have said lit the last meeting of the Education Board that It would he a good plan If land for school sites could he acquired under the Publle Works Act, as, although It would be no cheaper, the settler owning the land would not be getting the money. If the statement imputed to him Is true, t would like to suggest that when compulsorymedical examination of school children la enforced, it would be a Bond thing to extend the medical examination and Include members of the Education Board. An; man In Mr. Trimble's position who makes statements similar to thoße made by him the other day must be badly In need of some form of restraint or medical advice.—l am, etc., jaBMEK. Stratford, May U. THE ROADS AT SPOTSWOOD. To the Editor. Sir,—The ratepayers will hail with delight the proposal of the TirranaH County Council of malting and tar-Seallag all the main roads under its control, poring the last twenty years it has always kept faith with its ratepayers, the main reason for this being that Its members art men who hare a practical knowledge of road-making, and who do not trust Wholly and solely to their engineer. They never let a road get hopelessly out of repair without attention, and the way they managed to cope with the traffic on the Main South. Boad with ordinary macadam Is nothing short of a marvel, and I feel sure the ratepayers will unanimously support the council 111 borrowing the necessary money to tar and seal In one stroke the whole of the main roads. All New Plymouth suburban ratepayers have reason to deplore th« mistake they have made In Joining the borough, as they received far better treatment froitt the coilnty. ; Take, for instance, that piece. of the. TSfaln South Itoad from Johnson's store to the borough 1 boundary; the state of that patt 9f titt' bbrß-jgh roads It a standing disgrace to -atoy local body, as .the people In this end of the district, having no footpaths, have to dodge' along for the whole distance between pot-hole® and clay. The reason for all this is that the Borough Council Is composed of shopkeepers and business men who know nothing about' taakinft toads. However, we are plessed to heat that there have been one or two practical men elected ta-the Borough Council lately, and thus we expect (Jally to see better results;—l am, etc., : ' C. WARREN.
