REPATRIATION COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the New Plymouth • Repatriation Committee was held last evefting, there being presnt: Messrs W. ■ J. Clianey (in the chair), F. W. Okey, I C. Carter, T. Furlong, T. C. List, E. B. Ellerm, H. R. Cattley, and R. J. Clarke, ,and the secretary (Mr. A. S. Allen). Mr. uE. Whittle, representative of the Chami.ber of Commerce, took his seat on the committee, and was cordially welcomed. It was decided to approach tile Borougli iCouncil with a view to securing particulars of the valuations of properties desired by ex-soldiers, as a guide to values when applying for loans for houses. The Repatriation Department wrote stating that, whether in receipt of a pension or not, a man could receive training on a farm and be eligible for the monetary assistance given in such ■ cases. The secretary reported that since last meeting three ex-soldiers had been found [ employment. Three more were on the books, and efforts were being made to place them in suitable billets. Two i applications for houses and twelve for land had been received and referred to the Land Board, while he was facilitating the securing of pensions for two others. An application for a loan of £2OO for ithe purchase of dairy stock was approved. and two recommended for approval | providing the terms and guarantees were satisfactory. A further application was referred to the executive for additional particulars. A returned soldier, finding his present employment too severe on his health, asked for financial help in training for another occupation. The executive is to discuss the most suitable work for the applicant and report to next meeting. A soldier applied for an apprentice's allowance. His apprenticeship had been broken by his joining the forces, and lie wished to complete it.—Granted.
