Interviewed, he said America was devoting greater attention than ever before to international trade. There was no reason for British apprehension, but British manufacturers and traders must be prepared for a stronger effort, remembering America's increased ship-picg.—Aus,-N.Z. Cable Aasn. MEAT SUPPLIES. Received May 19, 7 p.m. London, May 17. Replying to Sir Newton Moore in the House of Commons, Mr. G. H. Roberts (Food Minister) said that Australian importers handled their own meat, except what the army required. None was handled by American or other companies. Only 10 per cent, of Britain's consumption of imported meat in 1918 consisted of Australasian. The serious shortage then prevailing necessitated large imports of North American meat, the price of which was higher.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
