The New Zealand Eeftigerating Company states that the liunbs were frozen .early in 1917, and were purchased by the Imperial Government, but could not be shipped owing to the shortage of shipping. The carcases were sent baek. It is expected about 200 will be condemned. The cause of the trouble has 'toot yet been definitely ascert^infid. SOMES ISLAND QUARANTINE buildings. Wellington, Last Night The Minister for ftealth, as the result iof a visit to the quarantine station at Somes Island, has ordered that the present buildings be renovated and painted at'once, the water supply to be improved, and additional buildings erected, making total accommodation for 500. The Minister admitted that the complaints were justified, but the state of the 'buildings was only what could be expected after being occupied over three year® by German prisoners. Wellington-,. Hast Nijght. The acting-Minister for Finance stales (that the State Advances Board had decided to extend the limits for lending to local authorities and settlers. It is proposal that the limit of local authorities be extended to .€IO,OOO instead of £SOOO in any year, and the limit to settliers desiring to procure a home be extended to £IOOO instead of £450. The extension will not include loans for repayment of mortgages unless" especially authorised by the hoard.
