SIR ANDREW RUSSELL.
FITTING RECEPTION TO BE TENDERED IN THE SOUTH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ghristchurch, May fl. A fitting reception is to be tendered to Major-General Sir Andrew Russell on arrival at Lyttelton next week. Dr. Thaeker, -M.P., Mayor-elect of Christchurch, has telegraphed to Captain T. Y. Seddon, M.P., who was for a while on General Russell's staff, inviting him to come to Christchurch to assist at the welcome. This afternoon Dr. Thaeker received the following reply from Mr. Seddon, who is at Wellington: "I am leaving to-morrow with the Hon. Mr. Mao Donald, via Nelson, for the mining conference at 'Hpkitika. I regret exceedingly that I shall ho unable to take part in your reception to my general. May your councillors and Canterbury generally give a fitting welcome homo to New Zealand's greatest soldier."
