NORFOLK ROAD. ANZ4G DAY, I (From A Correspondent). On Fridav, 25th tot, a most successful entertainment" was given at the Norfolk road school under the auspices ot tha (school Committee, who for the occasion had availed themselves of an offer from a concert combination! of young ladies from the neighborhood of Tariki The evening's entertainment was to* augment tho school funds, so that very much needed work around the school could be done, and though after deciding on tho day for nigh* rather) it was realised that tho 25th April should for Now Zealand and Australia he kept sacred, the committee decided that it would bo bettor to carry out their Intention, especially as, though Indirectly, tho object was patriotic. The weather was perfect and the attendance much more" than even hoppd for. Tho school rooms were packed, and, judging by the reception given to every item of the night's programme, full satisfaction was given to the audience. Encom were tho rule, and it was really late before the programme was concluded. After opening with the National Anthem in recognition of tho Day, the programme ■ progressed as follows :-rPianoforto duet by Misses, Therkleson and Glen; song, "Hitting the Trail" and "Pack Cp Your Troubles," by tho young ladies of Tariki; dollies song, by girls, Misses RumbalL and Laurence; song by Misses Langman. and Hogan; little girls' "Fairy Dance"; Indian club exercise by three Misses Price; Japanese Impersonation and song by school girls; a color presentation by school girls; "Michigan," by camouflaged farmers; pianoforte duet by Misses Runibail and Wisnewskl; song by Missse Langman' and Hogan; character recitation by Miss Free; pianoforte duet by Misses Maud and" Hiiro Price; "Quaker Girls," song and chorus; Irish song and dance. After suitable and complimentary remarks by Mr. W. Corney, chairman of the committee, and Mr. Thomas, tho headmaster of tha school, who Had spared no efforts to ensure the evening's | success the proceedings were concluded by a verso of "God Save the King." Tho audience were then asked to keep their seats while an ample supper was served round by willing hands. As, usual at Norfolk road, harmony, vocal, instrumental and social, prevailed without flaw. After the supper the floor was cleared for dancing and as Miss Hogan, assisted by tho Misses Langman, provided the music for '.ho night an enjoyable time was ensured although the floor was thronged. Much credit is due to the Misses Lancman and Hogan for the wondorfully accurate way in which their pupils in the action songs and dances performed specially considering that they had had only four reheasals of their ; parts. Tl'? Misses Price's club swinging trio] Is specially worthy of note. It Is not too much to say that whenever an entertainment 13 an- j nounced by the Norfolk road committee with i good support there will be, as on this occasion, a "bumper house."
