The Bolshevists have agreed to meet the Entente representatives, and to recognise Russia's debts are open to Entente investment provided that the social and economic order of the Soviets Government are not molested. The Supreme Council meets on Friday to impose on Germany the full will of the Allies- German insolence, according to I/-, Matin, renders the stiffening of the armistice conditions necessary.—AusN.Z. Cable Assoc. THE GERMAN COLONIES. STATEMENT BY MR. HUGHES. Received Feb. 7, 5.5 p.m. Paris, Feb. 5. Interviewed, Mr Hughes said: "What the good Rhine frontier is to France the Pacific Islands frontier is to Australia. My attitude has only interpreted what Australia feels. I can say nothing regarding the arrangement made for the disposition of the islands except that where we ought to feel certain and safe we feel we are in doubt, and perhaps great danger. It is hoped to be able within a a or three weeks to make a report re adjusting the territorial ciaaus, while reparation and French territorial claims will not be dealt with until tlie lull council again re-as*embles. A committee, similar to the Greek committee, has been created to examine th» Czecho-Slovak claims. The Intransigeant declares that conversations jre proceeding outside thv Conference between the smaller Powers who have conflicting claims with a view to reaching an approachment, thus speeding up the work of the Conference. Mr Fraser says it is believed the French and Belgian reparation claims have been filed. The latter approximates six hundred million sterling. France's is unstated. The Council to-day discusses the Bolshevik acceptance of the Princes Island Council. The Czecho-Slovaks have secured representation on the League of Nations Commission-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assoc.
