SCIENCE AND IMDUSTfiy Ciiristc'ittrch, Feb. 1. At the annual meeting of the Xew Zealand Institute the lion. O W. Uuabell delivered the opening address. He saitl that science should take its place as the assistant of industry and he hoped that one day a monument would be erected to Charles Terrier, the pioneer of the refrigerating industries. lie had pledged the Covermnent to an, increase of £SOO in the grant to the institute, and if this did not relieve its financial anxieties he was prepared to consider the question of recommending fin increase. In response to Professor Kirk, who ntrve'l a motion rej/relting that the Minister had vetoed a grant for a tidepredicting machine, the -Minister said that, the machine was of doubtful benefit,.
