The bringing-in of Inglewood into the Central division has revived interest in the banner matches amongst the clubs. There is one difficulty regarding Hawera The southern club travels on a Wednesday, and it is rather unfortunate that this day should bo the market day oi Inglewood and Eltham. Stratford is not inconvenienced so much, as Tuesday is the market day there. This question was raised when Inglewood players wero at Stratford on Thursday. One Inglewood bowler put it this way: The members of his club were all in business in a small way and had to make the most to earn a crust, and Wednesday was one of the two days they counted on to make a living, They could manage to put in three rinks, but. it was at a pinch, and hardly just to Hawera. With regard to Eltham and Stratford, the half-holiday (Thursday) and train arrangements suited Inglewood, very well. His club hoped to be always able to recognise the sporting side of the question, but it was extremely awkward for both clubs at the extreme end, as Hawera would have all its home matches played on the market day there (Thursday), a day when they also preferred attending to business. However, the system has to b« given a trial, and what appears to be at present a serious difficulty may from practice turn out to be quite workable. Eltham Club has revived considerably, and it is pleasing to see Grimstone and Drayton taking to bowls again. With Messrs Stanners, Hill, Beilly, and a few others coming forward again, the club should have no difficulty iu putting six rinks in the field.
Stratford Club is still steadily advancing in membership, The secretary, Mr. Porritt, is a keen man for the club and .keeps a watchful eye on possible members. With sustained interest in the club, there is more than a possibility that another ground will have to be added to the club's property. A dub that can send lfi players to the Dominion tournament speaks well for the enthusiasm shown in bowling by members. '
So far Inglewood has made no move regarding attendance at the Dominion tournament. Wanganui, however, will be visited, the following four making the trip:—Morton, McLaggan, Brauch, and Spurdle (s). This is not by any means the first visit to the river city by Spurdle's merry men. They have not been successful yet, but have a t times succeeded in: getting near the top, and perhaps the approaching tournament mean&isuccess at last.
