NGAMOTU SEASIDE COMPANY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual myelin/ of the Ngarabtu Seaside Resort Company was held last night, ilr. J. W. Haydeu presiding. DIRECTORS' REPORT. ; The directors reported that during the year Messrs F. U I'ayiio and li T. McQuade resigned f?o:u th; Messrs H. Brookmaii and W. F. Short being app ratal to fill the vacancies, ,'i'he auditor (Mr. E. P. Webster) in accordance with tiie rules, is again eligible for reelection.

CHAIRMAN'S EE®ARKS. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, tiie chairman said ttai for the purpose of ascertaining the progress of the company, he asked tliem to consider ihe balance-sheets of the committee and tlift company together, srid it would be seen that tire ass-ns exceeded the by as near as possible £iOU(), anil the net profit iur the year was ,€421. tie also drew attention to the item of £972 8s 2d, Joan to tiio company. The item was actually in process of liquidation, and would in the course of a few years constitute the whole of the liabilities, and the whole of the assets on the beach would be taTTon over by the committee free of debt, thus carrying out the main condition in the prospectus. Continuing, he said: I should again call your attention to the fact that the, directors are still personally liable for the overdraft at the bank, and to ask your help and consideration towards its speedy reduction. When you consider the time and the energy devoted to this good work, it certainly behoves the public, and especially the business section, to join hands with the committee and help to relieve the directors and others of any financial liability. With the exception of the caretaker, not one single penny has been paid in wages, and, to my mind, while this has been a laudable effort, it is hi?ii time that a.paid secretary was'installed. Practically four-fifths of the success of the Ngamctu Beach, is due to the magnificent ifo:< of our hen. secretary and treasurer (Mr. R, 0. Ellis). There is the necessary work of a company secretary, with the share register and Government returns, and the vast amount of correspondence, especially in connection with the letting of cottages. Liu-rally hundreds of written applications are made from all parts of the North Island every season. Then there is the collection of rents, necessitating innumerable trips' to the beach all the year round, the financial arrangements in connection with bathing appointments and shop, etc., to say nothing of picnics ar,:l the handling of nearly £llOO. While the citizens who have identified themselves with Xgamotu would like to improve the appointments on the beach (and there is room for-it), they feel it is their first duty to decrease the liability. The town has a very big asset, in this foreshore, and it was hoped the citizens will assist the company to the best of their abilityThanks were tendered to all those ladies and gentlemen who have rendered assistance, also the press for their efforts on our behalf. He then moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. The motion was seconded by Mr. W. P. Short and carried.

ELECTION 01" OFFICIALS. Directors: The retiring directors (Messrs J. W. H.-iydcn, ,T. C. Morey, arid (>rey) were re-elected.

Auditor: Mr- J?. P. Webster wns reelected auditor.

A vote of thanks was passed to"*he chairman and directors Pud to the secretary for their services during tiie past year. It was decided to vote the secretary a bonus of £2.3 for his services durTTig the past five years and to pay him a s&larv of £SO for the ensuing Year.

NGAMOTU SEASIDE COMMITTEE. Subsequently the annual 'meeting of the Xgamotu Seaside Committee was held. The balance-sheet was adopted on the motion of the chairman; The following were elected the committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs J. W. Harden, C. 0. Ward, G. Grey, 1!. J. Deare, W. T. Ilookhom, H. 0. Brookman, and P.- 0. Ellis. Mr. Kayden was re-elected chairman. A vote of thank-:, was passed to Mr. J. Findlay for his donation of a cake, which will be a feature of the prizes offered for competitions at the New Year's Uav Picnic. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mr. W. E. Bendall for his work in preparing the beach for the picnic.. Arrangement-? h cnnrec-tion with tin picnic v;ere further discussed, .md it was derided that the committee should meet again ne:;t Friday night. INGLEWOOD.

The many friends of his Worship the Mayor (Mr. George Young) will regret to learn tliat owing to having suffered a relapse, he relumed to the New Plymouth Hospital, yesterday.
