SWIMMING CERTIFICATES.

CENTRAL SCHOOL TESTS. The boys of the Central School, New Plymouth, commenced their tests yesterday at the municipal baths for the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association's certificates for distance swimming. All those who entered succeeded in covering tlie 100 yards necessary to qualify for certificates. Several reached tho mile distance, whole one boy (H. Hoffmann ) did 124 lengths of the bath, which is equal to 2 miles (133 yards. Hoffmann intends making an attempt to-day to improve his performance of yesterday. The remainder of the boys from the eehool will swim for their certificates this morning. There are no girls entering for the test this year. The following are the details of yesterday's resuls:— H. Hoffmann 2 miles 033 yards; R. Gillespie 1 mile 100 yards; P. Roberts and C. Hawkins 1 mile; L. Smith and W. Northern y s mile; C. Stellenson COO yards; Max Gray 500 yards; J. Boswell 330 yards; A. Sims and A Richards 260 yards; K. McKoy 200 yards; S. Morris 165 yards; H. Julian 130 yards; S. Lealand, V, Milne, Revoll, and S. •Phipps 100 yards. In connection with the schools' lifo saving competitions, the Central School expects to enter 10 teams (2 boys each). A squad of 20 boys will also give an exhibition of land drill.
