WAR PENSIONS.

GRAND TOTAL NOW 16,586. The record number of 1825 claims for war pensions—-1294 soldiers' claims and 531 from dependents—was lodged in January. This brings the grand total of war pensions claims up to 16,58(1 — soldiers' 10,723, dependents' 58G3. The record number of claims received in one week is 490, in January of this year. As the Commissio (ir pointed out to a N.Z. Times representative on Friday, "It would take practically a week to record these claims without doing anything else. Applicants, therefore, will readily understand the reason if there should bo some little delay before their claims arc dealt with.
