Captain D. S. Chisholm, adjutant of the 3rd Battalion, Otago Regiment, has been appointed a staff captain to the 4th, Infantry Brigade. Captain Chisholm is a son of Mr. William Chisholm, of Nelson, and a brother of Mrs. E. J. Blick, Salisbury road, Midhirst. A visitor to Hawera from Ireland is Rev. Father .lolui Power, B.A. (Dublin), who recently came to New Zealand from Ireland, via America. He intends to spend a three-weeks holiday with (his uncle, Dean Power, before taking' up clerical work in the Archdiocese of Wellington. The Rev. R. B. Gosnell, who has been in charge of the Methodist Church at Opunake for the past two years, left last week to proceed to camp. He has been appointed. to a post under the Y.M.C.A., and expects shortly to leave for the front. On Monday afternoon, members of the Methodist congregation entertained Mr. and Mrs. Gosnell at afternoon tea on the beach. Mr. G. Looney, on behalf of the congregation, spoke very feelingly of,the manner in which the guests had endeared themselves to all with whom they had come in contact. He asked Mr. Gosnell to accept a wristlet watch, and Mrs. Gosnell a hand-bag, as a small token of esteem The Revs. Haddon and Papakakura and Mr. Holland also expressed their regret at losing such an inestimable friend and worker. Mr. Gosnell, who has been in charge of the Boy Scouts, was presented by them with a fountain pen.—Star.
