Tireaking-up Ceremony;— Last Thursday evcniiig, in the Good Templar Hall, |he amnial breaking-tip ceremony' of the Ni?w Plymouth Girls' Nigh School was held, and Mr. D. Hutchcn, chairman of the Hoard of Governors, presided. The stage was beautifully ' decorated with uia^H 1 :; of scarlet and pink rambler, and with Miss Ban- (lady principal) on the platform were Mrs. D. Hutchcn, and .Misses Drew, Fairbrother, Clarke, Burrow and (Smith. The dux. of the school was Leila, Hurlc, and for proficiency in class work and in sports and games (Dr. F. Fookes' prize) Florence Evans\ The prizes were presented by Mrs. 1). Hutchen and Mr. T Hirst (in connection with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals essay competition). A very enjoyable programme of music, vocal and dialogue, was given by Trudie Burwcll, Jessie Cassie, Minnie Johnstone, Gwen Godfrey, Queenie Gibson, Constance CufV, Helen Thompson, ami Peggy Brown, while Irene Hirst acted as. accompanist. Amongst those present were Mcsdames Les. Webster, A. Thompson, Sumner, Cowling,- K. Bain, Oldham, Sladden, MaeDiarmid, Standish, Dullard. Baker, Renaud, J. Hetnpton, Les. Nolan. A. Kirkby, A. Annual Prize Giving.—A number of parents and friends wended their way to "Chetwode" Jast Wednesday afternoon, on tlie occasion of the annual breaking-up ceremony of the schooli A varied programme of songs, pianoforte solos, and drill displays were provided by the pupils. After the report of the year was rand by the lady principal (Miss Stanford) the Vicar of St. Mary's, Rev. F. G. Harvie, presented the prizes. Following the practice of the last three years the girls voluntarily accepted certificates in lieu of prizes. A very dainty afternoon tea Was served by the girls. Beat lib each of butter and 1 sugar until perfectly white and light; add 12 egga unbeaten (three at a time); stir in ljlb nf flour, two small teaspoonfulg of powler, one tablospoonful treacle. Four lbs each of rasins (stonncd and ihoppcd), currents, apples (mixed), and suet (chopped), y 2 lb each of orange, leaDn, citron candid peel, lib of sugar, 1 pint jf brandy, J pint of sherry, one grated nutmeg, one tablespoonful sinnlmon, 3o» »f salt; the juice of three lemons and three oranges together with the peel or two grated oranges, Mix all the in* ?redi,ent3 well together; put into a larg» ar and caver with saner dtoped ia
PLUM- PUDDING, Take %lb each of chopped suet, rasins, cm-rants, sugar and bread crumbs, eilron, 0 eggs, about. -J teaspoon mixed spice and a little sirinimon and $ gallon of rum or brandy. Instructions: Butter a pudding mould, fill with the mixture and tie a cloth over the top. Place the pudding in a, pot, taking care that the water docs not cover. " Boil for four hours, keeping the pot replenished with boiling water. Turn out the pudding on a hot dish and serve with brandv sauce.
