-MEETING OF TARANAKI C "THE. A meeting of the North Taranf.ki head centre of the r ßoyal Life-Saving Society wa s held at the Soldiers' Club hist night. Mr. N. A. Christiansen was voted to the chair, were present Misses J. Mclsaac aim* H. 13. White, Messrs C. Bond, S. G. Smith, J. Bennett, \V. C. Weston, W. J. Walker, R. L. Mellroy, R. Ilennoch, and P. A. Schwartz (secretary). Reports were submitted of visits paid '■>y representatives of t)he society to various schools iiNhe district. A letter was reeeivod from the Inglewood Swimming and Life-Saving Club indicating a desire ..to affiliate with the Taranaki Centre and -asking for particulars as io procedure. A similar request was receivrd from ,1. Laing on behalf of the Waitara Seaside Society, who contemplated forming a branch of the Royal Life-Saving Society.—The information sought had been supplied by the secretary. A letter was received from B. O'Noill (Ohristcliurch) asking for the names and addresses of secretaries of swimming I clubs in the various towns in Taranaki and also anatpproximate idea of the I number of members of the Taranaki clubs. The letter stated that the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association contemplated forming a centre in Taranaki,. and that a conference of centre delegates would probably be held at Wanganui in February.—-The secretary's reply to the letter was approved.
A communication was received from the clerk of the Taranaki County Council stating that the council had no power to refund amounts paid in toll-gate fees. The secretary drew attention to the financial position of the centre, pointing out that last year the paid-up membership was 100. while this year it stood at 'l4. It was resolved to appoint a subcommittee to endeavor to collect old subscriptions, and also to secure new members. A donation of 10s was received and spitably acknowledged from Mr. G. <"!. Gibson. Mr. Bennett intimated that he would donate £1 for benzine for a motor for -the representatives who are to visit, Opunnke, and he was heartily thanked for his offer. The chairman also stated that in connection with the visit to Inglewood Mr. Washboitrne had given his car free. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Washhourne. It was repotted ttiat the following swimming items had been arranged in connection with the band carnival: Boys' '?") yards, girls' 25 yards, life-saving, boys' championship (100 yards), and "exhibitions of diving and swimming. Tlje secretary reported that up to the present three entries had been received for the Tabor Shield competition. Entries for the primary schools lifesaving competition have been received from Fitzroy, Oaoiuii, Manaia, Warea, Tataraimaka, and Central; and for the senior, from New Plymouth Boys' High School. Several of the schools are entering more than one team. It was decided that pupils belonging to certain schools at the time of entry" for the life-saving competitions lie considered as belonging Jo that school at the date of, the competition. It was decided that pupils of all •secondary, private, technical, and district high schools be eligible to enter for the championship, and that pupils of the primary departments of district high
