CENTRAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Central School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. There were present: Messrs S. G. Smith (chairman), G. H. Dolby, F. Read, F. Cofeman (secretary), and R. L. Mcllroy (headmaster). The headmaster reported as follows! For the four weeks ending December 7 the attendance has been as follows: Nov. 10, 600.9; Nov. 23, 699.1; Nov. 30, 6fk3; Dec. 7, 597,1; average for the four weeks, R00.3, being 94.9 per cent, of the average roll of 632.5; present roll, 636 (a record); behest attendance, 615 (on Nov. 20); lowest attendance, 557 (on Dec. 7); admitted during the month, 11; left, 4. The number oni the roll at Vogeltown is 46, and average 43.6. A window and some piping were broken at Vogeltown in the recent gale. A balance-sheet in connec-

tion with the recent fancy dress hall, duly audited, shows a net balance of £7B 4s 4d; £43 haß been paid to the Mayoress (Mrs. Burgess), to be snared equally between the Red Cross and Women's Patriotic Society, leaving £33 4s 4d for the school funds. The break-up ceremony for the Central and Vogeltown schools will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, at the Good Templar Hall, and the infants wjll receive their prizes at 11.30 a.m. at Courtenay'Street school Messrs Trimble and White (members of the Education Board) and Mr. Dempsey will he present, and Mr. Collis (on hehalf of the Mayor, who will be awaV on holiday). The chairman stated that in connection with the suggested asphalting at Courtenay Street, the board's overseer considered that the expense would rot be justified in view of the age of the building, and that filling of fne holes and tarring would be the best course.—This was approved by the committee.
