(From Our Own Correspondent). [All communications, letters, etc., Wt iviiii Mr. H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, viU receive prompt attention.] Stratford, Nov. ill). The Municipal Band's first day out under its new conductor (Mr. Spurdle) was at the A. and P. Show. The band had the assistance of a few Wanganui comrades of the conductor, and their travelling this distance to assist tie local players showed a true spirit of helping hand. There were two accidents to cars. In tiie first instance it was in trying to avoid a motor-cyclist that the ears rubbed wheels, while a gig, driven by a lady, whom the car drivers opened "out to give room, caused the second stoppage.

'i'lie parade of stock was well directed by Messrs Stewart and Bailey. Judges and owners of stock from a distance were agreeably surprised at the quality entered, so that it is hardly wondered at that those who are in a position to judge are unanimous in saying that the show of 1917 was easily the best in the history of the association. To-day (St. Andrew's Day) is being observed as a close holiday by the banks and court.

The railway station this morning presented a very animated appearance, owing to the crowd of showmen, exhibitors, etc., taking their departure from the town. Business people report trade as very good. Messrs. Lester Bros., of Midhirst, announce on this page that during December they are issuing a special hamper for Christmas trade. The store is one of the largest grocery businesses in Taranaki, and those in the district can see by the prices that now is the opportunity to obtain seasonable groceries at lowest cost. Mr. Cecil Wright returned to Stratford yesterday after a visit to Wellington, where he successfully underwent a slight operation for the sight. T.'LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT. Last Saturday »y usual weekly sale was held, when a fair entry of poultry, etc., came to hand. We quote as follows: Hens Is Od to 2s Id, ducks 2s 3d to 2s 9d, roosters 3s to 3s 3d, gooseberries 4d to 5d per lb, potatoes lis to 12s sack, furniture and sundries at usual auction rates. T. Lamason's usual weekly sale is advertised for Saturday, when his usual sale will be held. He'particularly draws the attention of the public to a line of turkeys and ducks as advertised, tomato and astor plants. Ladies visiting the Stratford show are all invited to look through C. TO. -Tames' stock of hand-bags. They range from 3/6 to 0.)/-. Watch iiis windows as they and his shop are bristling with new goods from now on, and every article is suitable for a seasonable present.—Advt.
