CONSULAR SERVICE.
AT THE DISPOSAL OF BUSINESS MEN. (From Our Own Correspondent). . ■ Wellington, November 29. A point of considerable importance was mentioned to-day by the British Trade Commissioner (Mr.. R. W. Dalton), It is not generally understood by the business men of New Zealand that they have at their disposal the services of the consular and diplomatic officers of the Imperial Government in all' parts of the world. The Imperial Government gave instructions to this effect some years ago. Mr. Dalton said that he sometimes received requests from New Zealand firms for information regarding trade matters in, other_ dominions or foreign countries and for assistance in settling difficulties. He was always prepared to take up these inquiries and forward them to tho consular or diplomatic officers overseas, or to his brother trade commissioners in other dominions. But the business men of this country were entitled to make their requests direct to the consular and other officers if they wished to do so. They could get lists of consuls and other information from Mr. Dalton. They really had at their service the' whole vast organisation of the Imperial diplomatic and consular service, with its officers in almost every part of the world.
