Cases of infantile paralysis in the northern part of Auckland province have been notified recently to the public health authorities, states the Herald, and Dr. J. T. Hughes, District Health Officer, spent a week in visiting the infected localities, which are chiefly in the Otamatea County. It is stated that the cases ■reported have followed a somewhat unusual form. In some the onset has been marked by the patient suffering from malaise, or also a general feeling of not being well, also from headache* and pains in the head and back, and gastrointestinal disorder. In some cases these symptoms have rapidly passed, leaving the child weak, but with no paralysis. Actual paralysis has not been one ot the chief symptoms. The District Health Officer states that 110 cases have been reported from the northern district since October 27, and it seemed as if the spread of the disease had been stayed by the precautions taken.
