TRIAL OF ACCUSED.' By Telegraph,—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Edwards, the trial commenced of Frank Bennier for the alleged murder of his wife. It is alleged that on September 9, at Kauangaroa, prisoner attacked six persons during the night with an axe Mrs. Bennier died in consequence of the injuries received. The evidence for the Crown was on the lines of that in the lower court, witnesses stating that prisoner was a man of intemperate habits, who had previously threatened to "do for" his wife. The case will bo continued to-morrow, the jury being looked up for the night.
