DEATH OF MfeS. HARTNH& The many friends of Mrs. Allrvo Maud Hartnell, wife of Captain Frank Hartnell, who is at present serving with the forces in Prance, will Mncetely #orry ' to learn of her death yesterday morning, in very painful circumstances. Par some years past Mrs. Hartnell has been (a indifferent health, and during the last - few months she gradually declined. She ' was attended to by Dr. Wade, and for some little time underwent treattfitmt at Nurse CSharteris' hospital at FitSroy, until four days ago, when she returned home. At ten o'clock on Monday light her daughter went to her mother's room, , was told that she was feeling much better. A little after five o'clock yesterday morning one of the boys, whohad : gone into Mrs. Hartnell's room to ask , permission to go for a swim, found that his mother.was missing. .A search was made, and a relative, hurrying to Poke- . kuro Park, found that his surmise, unhappily, proved correct, as Mr. V. W. Smith, the curator of the Park, had found the body in the big lake. ■ The deepest sympathy is felt for Captain Hartnell and relatives of the deceased.

. At the Courthouse yesterday afternoon, an inquest was opened Wore Mr. A. Crooke, corpner. Formal evidence of identifictaion wat taken, and the i&i quest was adjourned sine die.
