FIRES.

A LOAD OF FURNITURE AFIRE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gore, Last Night. A serious fire is reported from Waikaia, under unusual circumstances. W. X. Bond's furniture was being conveyed from the Argyl station (which had been sold by him) to the Switzers railway station by a traction engine, and possibly a spark from the engine ignited the waggon, the whole consignment being much damaged. No time was lost in running the furniture into a stream, but with little effect. Some of the furniture was much prized, and consisted of heirlooms. The total damage is said to be in the vicinity of £SOO, but whether it is covered by insurance is unknown.
