The collapse of Austria also meant the imminent downfall of Germany, therefore Austria must be saved at all cost, even to the handing over of political as well as military direction to Berlin. The Daily Telegraph's Milan correspondent states that it is believed the outcome of the mission of Herr von Bethmann-Hollweg and Herr von Jagow to Vienna will be that Count Andrassy will succeed Baron Burian. He said the Kaiser was present, and did not appear worried, but he suffered from sleeplessness, and goes at night for motor drives. He talked freely, and disclaimed the British theory that he was responsible for the war, "I am not the man. . I acted in the ' best faith throughout, and strove hard ■ > for peace."
