The chairman of the Westland County Council is submitting a proposal to the staff to arrange to take up any amount required in war loan certificates", the staff to repay at the rate of five per cent, pet month on the capital sum for sixteen months, the certificates to be held by the council till the principal advanced is paid off, when the certificates will become the property of he contributing owner. It is suggested that this would be a helpful way of placing a large amount of the loan in the Dominion if it was generally taken up by local bodies to assist their employees. Dannevirke, Yesterday. The Dannevirke Chamber of Commerce approved the action of the • National Government in floating a war loan, and expressed the desire to give every assistance and to stimulate investment inthe district. It was decided to invite Sir Joseph Ward to address a meeting in Dannevirke in support of the loan. Members undertook to attend meetings in the country districts to explain the provisions. The Wellington Post Office reports there has been a good response by small investors to the invitation to subscribe to the war loan. Since Friday, as the details of the loan became better known, each day's record of business has Bhown an increase. Generally speaking, the small investor, that is up to £6O for the five years period, makes application to the post office, but the banks also report encouraging enquiries on the part of clients, both for large am' small amounts.
