T. 11. and Mrs. P.oseveare, who are leaving New Plymouth this, week, will be entertained this evening at a farewell social in St. Andrew's Church hall. *

At Okaiawa last week, Lance-Corporal Frank Doyle, up on final leave, was presented with a safety razor at a social gathering. Mr. Lee made the presentation. remarking that Lance-Corporal Doyle was an Okaiawa hoy, having spent lii.s life there, and wished him a safe return. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gift. At Hawera on Friday (reports the Star; the members of the Home Nursing Division and the Red Cross Committee met Mrs 11. A. Fovster, who has been lady superintendent for about ten years to hid her "bon voyage" on the eve of a trip to the Old Country, and presented her, from the St. John Ambulance and Red Cross workers, with a gold-mounted fountain pen. Sergeant William Power, formerly"'of the Main Expeditionary Force, machinegi.n service, and later of the Wellington Fay Department, on severing his connection with that department last week was the recipient of a ease of pipes and a volume on accountancy from his colleagues. Sergeant Power has taken up bis duties at Stratford as secretary of the Taranaki War Relief Society.

At the Borough Council offices on Monday afternoon, Mr. H. Black, who has occupied the position of electrical en gineor for the past ten years, was the recipient of a presentation from the staff. In making the presentation, which consisted of a suit-case and fountain pen, Mr. F, T. Bellringer, the town clerk, made happy allusion to the cordial relations that had always existed between Mr. Black and the staffs of the borough's various departments. Mr. Black, in a suitable response, thanked the donors.

Word was received in Eltham on Monday (says the Argus) of the death of Mr. George Percy Wake, barrister and solicitor, which sad event took place at Napier on Sunday. The late Mr. Wake was very well known in the district, and \<as at one time one of the leading publie men in the town. He came to Eltham twelve or thirteen years ago, and in 1005 unsuccessfully contested the Patea seat. In 1008 he was a candidate for the Egmont seat, and with Mr. Dive fought a second ballot, but lost the election. A year later he married Miss Knight, of Riverlea, and in the same year was joined by Mr. Gow in the practice of his profession. In 1911 he was elected Mayor of the town, but after holding office for a while was compelled to relinquish it on account of ill-health. Since then Mr. Wake had lived at Napier in indifferent health, passfng away on Sunday night. He loaves a widow, but no family, to mourn his death, at the comparatively early ago of 40. The late Mr. \Vake was very popular while he resided' in this district, and was a fluent and witty speaker, and in the practice of his profession displayed no mean ability. His death will be regretted by all who knew him, <vho will mourn the loss of a cheerful and well-re-spected friend.
