——„ PENSION'S BOARD OPERATIONS, \ By Ijlegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, August 11. From returns recently compiled some interesting information is now available as to the operations of t'he War Pen:>ions Board. The total number of claims lodged from soldiers up to July :S1 was 2030, and from dependents 1061, making a total of 31397. These have , been dealt with as follows: There have been G39 pensions granted to soldiers, 1722 have been granted temporary ali iowances, 238 applications have been declined, and 17 applications remain to be dealt with. In regard to dependi cuts, 552 have received pensions, 82 (mostly wives of soldiers) have obtainI ed allowances, 77 applications have been > declined and 50 are pending. Six hundred and thirty-nine soldiers' pensions represent a total expenditure of £33,003, or an average of £3O; to 182 wives and children the sum of £17,795 has been i allotted, or an average of £97; other dependents, to the number of 670, have absorbed £19,900, or an average of £29. The aggregate figures up to date mentioned are as follow:—Pensions, 1491, of the value of £73,624 per annum; allowances, 1 SO-t £84.000 per annum, ' making a total of 3205, of the value of 1 £157,004 per annum.
