ROLL OF HONOR.
A PART FOR THE PEOPLE WHO STAY AT HOME. ''Honor and shame from no condition rise; Act well your part, there all the honor lies." —Pope's "Essay on Man." All eyes are turned to the Roll of Honor in the daily press during these days of the great offensive on the Western front. The long lists are anxiously scanned to find the fate of our fellows. There we see the sacrifice our gallant young men arc making for us personally as units of the nation. What sacrifice are we making to help them when tliey return to their own land? Many will be grievously wounded; many too weary to resume their ordinary routine work for some time. It will be shame on us for the returned soldier or sailor who finds no one to lend a helping hand. We must do more for our brave men than cheer them as they go forth to keep old England's Hag flying. We must, see that they are cared for and honored when they return to resume civil life—when the bands no longer play. Those who cannot help in a large way have a very good opportunity of helping the returned soldiers and sailors in a small way "by investing a shilling or. so in the Anzae Art Union, the proceeds of which are to I>e utilised in building a club on the Mcllardy gift section at Palmerston North. This club will be endowed, and will be free for all time to all sailors and soldiers of the Empire. The drawing will take place on the date specified on the tickets, and : the winning numbers will appear in this ' paper the day after the drawing. The members of the committee will pay £IOO out of their own pockets to any charity the Mayor of Wellington names if the date of the drawing is postponed. Full details of the art union arc published in this issue.
