t DISTRESS IN SYRIA. AMERICAS ASSISTANCE ASKED FOR. Times and Sydney Sun Services. London, June 1. The Times' correspondent at Cairo the Syrian community has approached an American agent requesting American assistance to alleviate their great sufferings. The Ottoman Government is permitting the distribution of foodstuffs. Refugees bring harrowing details of distress, and imperative action is necessary to prevent other regrettable cases. NOBEL'S EXPLOSIVE COMPANY. London, June 1. At the annual meeting of Nobel's Explosives Company the chairman said that the original £IOO shares were now worth £3OOO, and £BSOO had been paid in dividends on them.
