STILL RETREATING. GENERAL CA'DORNA'S RETORT. AUSTRIAN'S FOLLOW UP OFFENSIVE. Received June 1, 8.30 p.m. Rome, June 1. General Cadorna reports that the enemy made violent attacks on the La Garina valley, being supported by a furious bombardment, but the attacking columns were annihilated. Fighting is fiercest at the Pass de Buola, where the Sicilian and Taro brigades several times dashed out of the trenches and drove the enemy back with the bayonet. A battle is developing between Posna and the upper Astico. The enemy are concentrating their forces in the Astico valley, and an intense concentration of artillery has obliged the Italians to evacuate Mont iPriafora. By a desperate counter-attack they regained possession of the position, but nevertheless the violent fire of the enemy artillery forced the. Italians to fall back slightly on the southern slopes of tlie mountain. The Italians also evacuated Grintacorbin, upon the Astico plateau.
