BOY'S SUDDEN DEATH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, Sunday. An eight-year-old boy named Ernest Guy met his death under peculiar circumstances this morning. He was playing with other children near the Maitai River, and while, running across the stream, which was about a foot deep, he Blipped and fell. The lad died a few minutes later, apparently from shock.

SERIOUS TRAP SMASH. Auckland, May 12. In Newmarket to-day, a horse attached to a gig containing Mr. Ireland and his son, farmers, of Tamaki West, took fright and bolted. The terrified animal dashed into a shop-front, throwing young Ireland througli the window. The shafts also struck a middle-aged woman, Mrs. Kelly, who was also thrown through the window. Both were seriously injured. Mrs. Kelly is in a very critical condition, and Mr. Ireland is suffering from concussion of the brain. SUICIDE AT WANGANUI. Wanganui, Yesterday. Edwin Marshall, a married man with four children, aged 28, was found dead this morning locked in his office, with the gas turned on. He> left letters for his wife. BUSH MISHAPS. Taumarunui, May 13. A bushman named Fred Hoy had his ribs badly crushed yesterday while felling a tree at Stevens' mill at Matapuna, George Box, a single man, aged 24, was shot through the hand and wounded in the upper arm at Otangiwhai, while unloading a magazine rifle with his hand over the muzzle. Both men have been admitted to the hospital here. A CHILD'S DEATH.

Wellington, May 15. A child named Winifred McGuirk, tluee years of age, died at the Children's Hospital yesterday as the result of scalds. Tlie little girl was admitted to the institution on the 9th inst., having fallen into a bath of'boiling soda water at her parents' home.
