HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Wellington, May 1. The 'Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce lias received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, April 29. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot) Meat.—An active demand continues for all descriptions. There is, however, only a small supply, and there has been 110 change in prices, with the exception that quotations for home-killed have declined. The weather is hot, and the demand has considerably fallen off as usual after Easter. Canterbury and North Island mutton 7%d per lb, ewes 7y s d; New Zealand lamb, all descriptions, B%d per lb. .Prices for River Plate have declined. Mutton 9d, lamb 9%d ; There is no New Zealand beef offering. Chilled is in very limited supply; hinds lOd, fores B|d. Butter.—Market closed firmer, with more enquiry and prices firm . Danish, quiet, 1088 to 170s per cwt.; New Zealand, in good demand, 1(138 to 104s, fair to good quality 150 a to lr>Bs, unsalted 162s to 104s; Australian, 150s to 158s, unsalted 158s to 100s; Argentine, firm, 150s to 1525, unsalted 154s to 150s; Siberian, good demand for all descriptions, 120s to 1345.

Cheese.—The market is very firm. >iidian, 108s to 110s. In the case of IsVw Zealand the market has advanced, and a further advance is probable. Spot market is bare; 107s to 108s. United States, in good demand, 105s to 107s; English Clieddar, 110s to 118s. Hemp.—The market is lifeless, and quotations are nominal. New Zealand, good-fair, per ton, £49, fair £47. Wheat—The marke'/ is quiet, but firm. Canadian, 00s per quarter, for arrived.

Oats. —The market is firm; Argentine, 33s per quarter.
