DISTRICT NEWS.
WAREA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday evening last a farewell social was tendered to Mr. J. Keogh, who has enlisted for the front. There was a record attendance, the hall being packed. In the early hours of the evening dancing was only possible with difficulty. All thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Messrs. A. Rorkes" and J. Aylwfird made capable M.'s C. Excellent music was provided by Mr. R. B. Barnett, extras being played by Miss Aylward. During the eveninn- a recitation was given by Mr. H. Lett. On behalf of the settlers of
Warea, Mr. T. Julian presented the guest of the evening with a wristlet watch, and N. Tui, on behalf of the Newall Road settlers, presented him with a pipe. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gifts. The ladies and the committee provided supper, after which dancing was continued for a few hours. Messrs. F. Pearson and S. West are also in camp. On their return home on final leave socials will also oe tendered them. The Egmont county staff has commenced the erection of a new bridge over the Waiweranui River in ferro-concrete. Meanwhile traffic is carried on a tern-
porary bridge, the approaches to wliicu have not been metalled, with the result that it is 110 uncommon sight to .see a heavy lorry stuck thereon and holding up h string of cars and other vehiculai traffic. Something will have to be done to remedy this ere the winter sets in.
