LABOR UNEASY.
CONFERENCE AT WELINGTON. TRANSPORTERS' FEDERATION •MOOTED, By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, .ifav 2. A lengthy conference has been proceeding between representatives of the Amalgamated Railway Servants, Engine Drivers' and Firemen's Association, and the waterside workers' organisation. No official satement has been made, but it is understood that all the delegates are agreed that the linking-up of the labor bodies mentioned is desirable, and that in the near future one fedeiation of transport workers will be established, embracing all branches of the railway service as well as the carters, tramwaymen, waterside workers and seamen.
It is contended tliat the terms of recognition entered into between the Commissioned and tlie A.S.R.S. in 1914 having been 'broken, the railwaymen are no longer bound thereby, but are at liberty to take such action as they think fit. in the direction of strengthening their position by federating with other transport organisations. The Transporters' Federation is now i'< process of formation. It will comprise from 45.000 to 50,000 men, and will be the biggest industrial organisation yet brought into being in New Zealand.
