An officially inspired article in the Cologne Gazette prepares public opinion for a partial climb down on the submarine question, on the ground that a defiance of America would precipitate a breach, which the Allies are working for. iAXOTHER IRON CROSS, Berlin, May 1. The Kaiser decorated Herr Krupp von Bohlen with the Iron Cross of the first class. He added that owing to his labors Germany was winning the war. A GERMAN HOLIDAY. Berlin, May 1. German school children received a whole holiday in celebration of the fall of Kut, and will only go to school to hear a patriotic lecture on the Turkish victory.
HER HUGE ARMY; OVER FOUR MILLION MEN IN ARMS. Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received May 2, 5.15 p.m. London, May 1. The French staff has identified the 111 th German Army Corps at Verdun. The strength of the corps being 40,000. the enemy must have 4,440,000 under arms at the present time.
