IN THE WEST.
FLAMING LIQUID ATTACK. HEPULSEDjBY THE FRENCH. Paris, April 29. A communique says: The Germans on Friday evening, using flaming liquids, attacked our trenches westward of Thiaumont farm, but were mown down and repulsed with heavy loss. Simultaneously our lire stopped another attack between Douaumont and Vaux.
GAS ATTACKS REPELLED,
ENEMY RUN THE GAUNTLET. London, April 30. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Two small German attacks under cover of gas were repulsed opposite Hullueh. The gas was blown back, and forced the Germans to quit their trenches arid run the gauntlet of our barrier of fire. They sustained considerable casualties. LIVELY AERIAL COMBAT, London, April 23. Sir Douglas Haig reports: —The enemy on Friday morning attempted to enter oiu' trenches at two points north of D'Oclincourt, after exploding five mines, followed by an artillery and trench mortar bombardment. We successfully re- | pulsed the attacks. The days have passed quietly at Loo* since the gallant fighting of the ICth, when the lr\sh Division broke up a German attack under cover of gas. There have been 24 aerial combats. Four of our machines attacked eight of the enemy who were flying in formation, and drove a wedge in the middle, driving down four of the enemy. One of our machines was hit, but there was bo casualty.
