THE SIXTEENTH REINFORCEMENTS TARANAIvI'S QUOTA COMPLETE. A few daySvago Taranaki was fifty men short in itsl quota for the Sixteenth Reinforcements,\but the urgent appeal for the shortage \o be made up lias been splendidly and the Defence Headquarters, Haw*™, reported yesterday that the quofti is now complete. This draft, which leVves for Trentham by the mail train oi\Monday morning, comprises 123 men. \ The position in Wellington in regard to the Sixteenth Reinfor!\ements is not good. On Wednesday, tn\e figures for the Infantry only were available, and these show that of 17.1 men required, but HO can be expected to conw, forward. This leaves the shortage for \this unit at till. The ranks of the otlV r "nits will be, in all probability, filled,\so that of the total quota of 225 the shortage will be at least 115—over 50 per dent.
SHORTAGE IN A few extra men are wanted to mike up Taranaki's shortage in the Fifteenth Reinforcements now in camp, and 1M these men will be required to leave fritf camp to-morrow they must notify tlx* nearest. Defence Office to-day of'their intention to go. Three weeks ago the Fifteenth Reinforcements were called np to go into camp, and to-day the draft is reported to bo still 2(ifi men short of its complement. The shortages for the various districts, which are wholly confined to the Infantry, are as under: Wellington 144 Auckland ' 3 Otago J 42 Canterbury 77 Total -..-.-s-rvf.v.2tj(i MEN IN NEW PLYMOUTH. An examination which the New Plymouth Recruiting Committee has made into the number of men of military age still available shows there are 220 single men in the borough, and 120 men who have not yet been identified as "single" or married. Some of these men have enlisted and have been rejected, but it would appear that the majority have not offered to serve.
