STRATFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Tuesday. The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. J. \V. Boon), Councillors Davey, Hancock, Lawson, Hunter, Mills, Thompson, Stanley, and Young. Cr. Thompson moved that the inspectors attention be called to cycling on the footpaths, and the driving of vehicles at liig'ht without lights.—Seconded by Cr. Lawson and carried. J. Martin's tender cf £22 for a shelter shed in the Koputama Cemetery was acepted. CORRESPONDENCE. From the secretary of the Hospital Board, suggesting that the recommendations of the Health Department regarding the sanitary inspection of the borough be carried out.—Reported that the work has been undertaken. Thos. White wrote pointing out the unsatisfactory position of the light at the corner of the Mountain and Warwick roads, and suggesting that the lamp bracket be lengthened.—Left in the hands of the Lighting Committee, with power to act. A. F. Mollison, New Plymouth, informed the Council that he had purchased &the lease of Webster . Dobson land Co.'s premises in the new Municipal Buildings, and asked the Council to agree to a transfer from that firm to him. —Agreed to. Newtou King wrote asking for a share ol the fire insurance business of the Council. —Received. L. H. Clark (National Insurance Co.) and Spence and Stanford also wrote on the same matter.—Received. W. XV. Hodge informed the Council that any earth and material placed on his section in Page Street would be at the Council's risk.—Received. Accounts amounting to £97 8s 4d were passed for payment. His Worship gave his annual report of the year's working and then retired. Cr, Hancock moved that Cr. Hunter take the chair. —Cr. Lawson seconded. Cr. .Young moved an amendment that Cr. Thompson take the chair, and Cr. Mills seconded this. A deadlock ensued, the voting being 3 each way. Neither side would give way, and eventually Cr. -Young was proposed, and this nomination was carried. Cr. Young moved that the usual honorarium of £SO be voted to his Worship for his past services.—Seconded by Cr. Stanley and carried. —His Wors'hip thanked the Council. After the Council adjourned, the Councillors were invited by his Worship to a supper at the Egmont Club.
