(From Our Own Correspondent). Arrangements are well in hand for tlie cricket match in aid of the patriotic fund. The date fixed is the llith inst., and the novel idea arranged by the committe promises to make it a most interesting and amusing afternoon. A strong ladies' committee, consisting of tlie following ladies, has been appointed: Mesdaines J. and L. Sutherland, \Y. Matthews, Gow, Winter, Grant, O'Carroll. Pillion, and Hisses Crawford, Curtis and Esse, and will provide afternoon tea. Arrangements have also been made for an orchestra to be ill attendance if possible. The following is a list of penalties to be enforced:—(l) Any player either dropping or not attempting a catch, Is; (2) any player making a duck by being bowled first ball. Is lid; (3) any player making a duck, not first hall, Is; (4) any player bowled or caught out, (id; (">) any player run out, Is; ((>) any player running another out, lid; (7) any player bowling a wide or a "no ball," Is: (S) any player appealing to the umpire and such appeal not being upheld, Is; (!l) for every wicket to tlie credit of a bowler, (id; (10) any player making 2f> runs 2s tid, 50 runs os, 75 rims 7s (id, 100 runs Ills: (11) the losing team shall be fined 5s fid (fid each man); (12) anv player not paving lines within half-au-hour after the match. Is; (H) the umpire's decision on any point in connection with the play or penalty incurred by a player shall be absolutely final, and any player disputig or questioning such a decision shall be fined Is. Two well-known New Plymouth cricketer* are to he asked to act as umpires. The Patriotic Committee assembled at tlie station on Monday morning to say good-bye to the Inglewood quota of the 14th Reinforcements. On behalf of the Red Cross Committee, Mesdames Winfield, Gow and King attended and presented each man with the usual parcel oi comforts. Heavy showers have fallen during the past two days, much to the satisfaction of the farming portion of the comniunitv, crops generally being much benefited. The Patriotic Committee met on Monday night, when several matters of minor importance were discussed, and the question of assisting the Government with recruiting, a most important one, was dealt with at some length, and is to be further discussed at tlie next meeting, a fortnight hence.
