SYDNEY WOOL SALES. By Caljle.—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Feb. 15. At the sales wool ruled firm at late rates. WELLINGTON WOOL SALES. Wellington, Feb. In. The wool sale was resumed to-day. The top jrice realised so far is l!)Jd, for Romney crossbred wool from Hokitika, TARANAKI WOOL, STON, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES. MR. NEWTON KING'S EEPOET. On Tuesday, February S, at my fourweekly sale, I catalogued 179 bales and 203 sacks of wool, 1500 sheepskins, 9 casks and 42 tins of tallow, 3SO hides and 703 calfskins. There was the usual attendance of buyers. In sympathy with other market, woo] advanced y.d per lh, with the exception of seedy lambs', which is still bard to quit. Top price was realised for four bales of fleece on account of Mr. E. G. Morgan. This brought 13d. aritT his lambs' 14d. The wool generally showed seed, and the bulk was back-country lots, which were much better grown than for the corresponding sale last year. Sheepskins again advanced, woolly y 2 d, lambs iy 2 d, salted pells Is to Is 3d each. Owing to the embargo on hides, these were %d to Id per lb easier, although choice heavy cow sold up to lOd. LOAN & MERCANTILE CO.'S REPORT.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Stratford branch), report as follows: We held our first auction sale in our Tarata yards on Friday. 4tli inst.. The day was very wet and boisterous, but notwithstanding this we had a fair entry of both sheep (1980) and cattle (20S), most of which were disposed of at the hammer and afterwards at increased values on recent sales' rates. The attendance was large, and before opening the sale, Mr. A, B. Gamlin, on behalf of Messrs Matthews, Gamlin and Co., introduced the company's staff in a few wcll-choscn words, after which Mr. Hewitt, the company's manager, made a few remarks as to the company's system of finance, after which the sale proceeded very successfully. The farmers in and around Tarata much appreciate the entry of the company into the district. Prices:—Lambs, small and scedv, 9s Id to 9s lid, fair-grown up to 13s (id, f.m, ewes (showing age) 13s 4d to IBs ■ld. 4 and 0-tooth and f.f.m. ewes ISs to 19s Sd, 2-toot.h wethers 20s to 23s 3d, ■I-tooth wethers 235, fat ewes up to 22s lid, aged rams Ms to Ids, fat and forward cows ,C 5 10s to ,C 9 ICs (according to weight), bulls .CO 10s to £9 10s. Our next Tarata sale will be held on March 9.
We held our first sheep fair in our Stratford yards on Monday, 7tit inst. The yarding was not so large as was anticipated, there being 253S sheep, of which most were sold at full market values as under:—F.M. ewes (good) 19s 10d, 20s to 20s -lil, f.m. ewes 17s ]Oil to ISs, cull ewes 12s 7d to 13s Id. 4-tooth wethers 24s Id, lambs (very good) 15s
cd. other lambs ]3s 3d to 13s Sd. On Tuesday, Bth inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale, in our Stratford yards. The attendance of the public
was good and the yarding fair. 444 head of cattle, 21S sheep and five pigs being yarded, most of which were sold at keen competition, though cows and bulls were lower iu value:—Fat cows made £9 15s to £ll 10s, smaller £S 10s to ;CU 10s, forward cows £7 to ;CS 10s. store cows
