The United States Government is likely to withdraw the proposal made to the Allies that armed merchantmen should not carry guns in future, on pain 8f being treated as warships. The United States will await developments, or, in other words, do nothing further. During a debate in the Senate on the Niearaguan Treaty it was announced that Germany bad offered a larger sum thtfn the United States to secure the of the Niearaguan canal zone. The United States, however, induced Nicaragua to wait. JIUNJTION PLANT DESTROYED. Received Feb. 15, 5.5 p.m. New York, Feb. 14. The General Electric Company's munition plant at Schenectady (N.Y.) A communique says: We blew up an : ammunition-depot north-east of Boesinghe, and our curtain of fire stopped the enemy's attempt to debouch on to , the Terny road and the right bank of the Aisne. • The enemy eastward of Seppois carried out an intense bombardment on the advanced trenches, which we bad retaken and evacuated because they were entirely wrecked. Our curtain of fire caught the enemy reinforcements advancing from the direction of Niederlarg.
