While mustering sheep on Saturday afternoon, the eldest son of Mr. J. Lueena, of Toko Road, was thrown from his horse, his arm being badly smashed at tlie elbow.

Mr. 1\ W. Cowling, who met with a motor accident near Oakura 011 Saturday evening, is making good progress towards recovery at the New Plymouth Hospital. Mr. ,7. B. Mr. J. E. Wilson leaves this morning for Wellington to attend the conference of patriotic committees there an the representative of the Taraanki Provincial War Relief Executive.
Mr. .T. E. Fitzgerald, of Wellington, and a prominent member of the Capital's City Council, arrived in New Ply. month yesterday. Air. Fitzgerald, who is accompanied by Mrs. Fitzgerald, motored up from ' Wellingtoii and is stopping at the Criterion Hotel.
Regimental Sergeant-Major Alfred George Withers did a t the Wellington Hospital on Monday, aged 02. He was the youngest sou of the late Major Withers. Formerly lie was connected with the police force, but for many years past had been with the Defence Department.
Mr. H. A. Stratford, headmaster of the Inglewood School, who has' offered his services for the front has received notice to go into camp early in March. Mr. Stratford has had considerable experience as a cadet oflicer. and has. been given a commission in the 10th Reinforcements.
A private cable received in Wellington reports the death at Ismnilia of Lieut. Graham Griffiths, who waß thrown froju his horse and fractured his .skull, Lieut. Griffiths left with the Bth Reinforcements and rose from corporal, lis was a Blenheim borough councillor, * member of thu firm of Griffiths Bros., and a very popular resident. Mr. D. A. Sellar, of Hawera, lias received the following cablegram from Loudon: "Regret to inform you that Second-Lieutenant ]{. G. Sellar, R.RA.. admitted 14th General Hospital, -liunlogne, on the 12th j wound, left »■:» 1 severe—Secretary, War Office, London.' The last letters received from him eoj' veyed the news that the orders he im I received to proceed to the front hie hi December had been cancelled. He mum, however, have left soon afterward*.Star.
