TARANAKI AUTUMN SHOW.
POSITION OF THE SOCIETY. The president (Mr. J. Connett) has /sent (the following circular to members of the Taranaki Agricultural Society:— It being now only one month from the date on which the 41st Annual Stock Show of the Society will be held, it may not be out of place if I put before you a few facts in connection v/ith. the present position of the Society. You will, I feel sure, be pleased to know that our efforts in the direction of increased membership have been attended with extremely satisfactory results, there being at the moment well over 800 names on the Members' Register. * This means that nearly 500 new members have been obtained since the special general meeting held last June. Many of the 800 have already paid their 1916 subscriptions, others have arranged ,theirs on the "Factory Cheque Deduction" system which was adopted at the beginning of our recent canvassing campaign, and I venture to hope that' all those who (probably for want of a reminder) have not yet paid up, will become financial members before Show Day, for £BOO in hand before the Show opens will go a long way towards assuring not only the success of this particular function, but the future welfare of the Society also. To those members who may not be aware of the value obtainable for 'the £1 subscription, I would point out that it carries the following privileges: Reduced entrance fees for exhibits; admission to the Stock Show for the member, two ladi.is, and (provided he be a family man) all his children of school age; also admission to the Winter Show (four days) for himself and a lady's ticket for each day. I may here mention that it has been decided to issue ribbon badges instead of tickets for the forthcoming Show, and I shall be glad if all members will be good enough to wear their badges on their coats, which will be an assistance to the gate-keepers, as well aB an advertisement for the Society.
This year's Show will be held on the Racecourse, but I sincerely trust that it will be the last time we shall have to trespass on the extreme kindness of the Taranaki Jockey Club in this direction. As you are aware, we are now issuing £5 debentures to enable the Society to finance the new grounds at Wahvakaiho, and' should we meet with the succesß, which I air. optimistic enough to believt we will in this direction, then the Autumn Show of 1917 will be held on the Society's own grounds, and the Racecourse will know us no more (I refer, of course, vo the Society, not to its individual members). I may say that already debentures to the amount of £I2OO have been applied for, and I shall be glad to hear from any member who is desirous of helping us in this direction; conditions re same will be found on a separate sheet. Schedules of the Stock Show have been posted to each member, and I shall be obliged if you will peruse your copy carefully and make entries in as Joany classes as you possibly can; if you have not got a champion hack or a pedisrree Jersey bull, you probably have a calf fit for the Gift Class; failing the last named, a donation towards the Prize Fund will be decidedly acceptable; if you have already given this, then your assistance on Show days will be equally appreciated. Anything you can do to help the 1910 Show is adding a. link to the permanent success of our Society, which success, I am confident, can, and will be assured if each one of us "does his little bit." Gentlemen, I now leave the matter, with confidence, in your hands.
