SUCCESS OF WAR LOAM Melbourne, Feb. t. The war loan has passed 21 millions, and isj still increasing. METALS AND MUNITION'S. WAR INVENTIONS. Sydney, Feb. 4. The Barrier Mine office lias been pickotted and several arrests have been made. Mr. Pearce announced that the Government had considered the dispute in view of the Empire's needs of metals and munitions. It was proposed that the mine work four days a week, not Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, otherwise under the old agreement, pending the court's decision. Melbourne, Feb. 5. The Defence Department has decided that enlistments shall be restricted to men of Kuropean origin. Asiatios, though born here, will be barred. ilr. Griffiths' scheme for a Patents Investigation Board is of considerable service, and is investigating thirty war inventions. Representatives of the Imperial Department of munitions purchased iiOO tons of steel. This is the first occasion that steel manufactured here lias been bought for making munitions in England.
