PERSONAL.

Mr. W T. Jennings, M.P., who lias been on a visit 'to Auckland returned to New Plymouth on Saturday. Mr. Edward Morrissey has been elected unopposed to the vacant seat on the Hawera Borough Council. Mr. Justice Hoskiiig, who presided over the Supreme Court at New Plymouth. returned to Wellington on Saturday morning. Mr. Oeorge R. Drew, of the Telegraph Department, Wellington, lias been appointed wireless oparator, under military control, at the Radio, Apia, Samoa. Colonel R. Logan, Administrator of Samoa, who has been in New Zealand, will leave for Samoa to-day by the Talune. to resume duty as administrator. He lias not been notified whether the acting-administrator, Colonel 0. W. S. Paterson, will return to New Zealand immediately.

Mr. Leo, Richards, who leaves to-day to jjin the forces at. Trentliam, was entertained by his fellow-members of the Avenue Road Card Club 011 Friday night, and was presented witht a handsome wristlet watch. Word has been received in Wellington of the engagement of Sister Grace Sisley. who is attached to the nursing staff of the Walton-on-Thames Hospital, England (and formerly of tho New Ply.mouth Hospital-, to Mr. J. Gill, of South Canterbury, New Zealand.

Mr. W_ Stanley, Hillsborough, has received a letter dater December 14, from his son, Pte. E. C. Stanley, in which he said that he had returned .'to the Weymouth depot and had'so, far recovered is to bo, able to carry o"n with his training. He was e.vpecting soon to be sent to rejoin his regiment. He also acknowledges receipt of a parcel from the settlers of Kgmont Road, and tendered his thanks for same.

Mr. W. Ainsworth, who for some time past has tilled the position of secretary of the New Plymouth Life Saving Club, leaves this morning for Trentliam to join the Expeditionary Forces. At the meeting of the club 011 Friday evening members took advantage of the opportunity of expressing their high appreciation of the thorough manner in which Mr_ Ainsworth had fulfilled his duties.
