A NEW YEAR GREETING. GERMANY'S GREAT OFFENSIVE. Received Dec. 19, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, Dee. 18. The Telegraaf says that almost daily sixty long trains are passing through Cologne with troops and. war materials for the West front. In Germany there is much talk of a great offensive in the West before the New Year, with the object of breaking the line. ENEMY GUNS SILENCED. REPORT FROM HEADQUARTERS. Received Dec. 10, 11 p.m. London, Dec. 19. Official, from British headquarters in Franco-: The day was misty and unsuitable for observation, but our artillery, assisted by the French, effectively silenced hostile guns northwards of Ypres. A HYDROPLANE SMASHED. Received Dec. 19, 5.5 pjn. Paris, Dec. 18. One of our torpedoers brought down a German hydroplane at Nieuport. Two officers were picked up in the sea and taken prisoner. One of our cruisers destroyed a German munition factory at Haifa. J
